A Night Out On the Monorail

If you love Disney World parks then you'll love this fun idea.

Grab a friend who loves Disney and drive to the Orange Garage at Disney Springs for FREE, covered parking. 

When you enter Disney Springs from the escalator you will want to take a right at the bottom toward Disney Buses.

Board the bus to Wilderness Lodge.

Exit the bus at Wilderness Lodge and make your way to the lobby.

Head to the front desk or concierge and ask if any Disney character is hiding in the lobby or bookshop. 

If yes then ask what the rules are and then enjoy the treasure hunt.

Once you find the character, take a picture and show the front desk for a free gift!! Also post it on IG and tag me @Michelle.Spanos or FB @MichelleChuteSpanos

PRO TIP: Do this at every Disney resort you visit for a fun collection of Disney pins from each resort.

Once you're done in the lobby, make your way down to the water front and the Geyser Point Bar and Grill.

Enjoy a drink or a snack while you wait for the geyser to go off.

Every hour, on the hour the geyser goes off!!

Follow signs to the boat to Magic Kingdom.

Getting off at Magic Kingdom enjoy the outside of the Park, take photos with train station, people watch.

Take the walking path to the Grand Floridian Resort. Enjoy the grounds and the lobby looking for Disney characters on all the lobby floors, upstairs and down.

Grab a monorail ride to the Contemporary Resort and enjoy all this unique resort lobby and grounds has to offer.

Hop back on the monorail to the TTC, transferring to the EPCOT Monorail. If you have timed it right you have boarded the monorail to EPCOT 10min before or at the start time of the EPCOT fireworks and will see the show as you round the EPCOT ball in the monorail.

DO NOT GET OFF.

Stay on and get off at the TTC.

Walk or ride to the Polynesian and grab a seat on the beach to watch the Magic Kingdom firework show.

After the show, grab a bus back to  your car at Disney Springs.

The Citrus Tower

Classic Florida

A fun old-school adventure in Central Florida is the Citrus Tower.
A little over 30 minutes from Walt Disney World and an hour and a half from New Smyrna Beach it is one of the original Florida attractions!
It really makes for a great morning or afternoon trip.

It's open 9-5 Monday- Saturday and closed on Sundays.
The cost in January 2015 was: $6 adult $4 children.
Purchase your ticket in the gift shop and ride to the top.
Stay as long as you like.

May I suggest reading the information on the Citrus Tower from their website as you travel to it!

What I really like about the Citrus Tower is the history and simplicity.

An original attraction, before Mickey and Universal, I-Drive and Mall of Millenia.

Simple is good.
Makes you stop and talk. Laugh and enjoy.

The Presidents Hall of Fame sits next door and it worth a look around their gift shop. We found it a little creepy, yet intriguing and funny. Had this not been a tight budget and time trip we may have paid to see beyond the gift shop.

We had packed a lunch and ate in Waterfront Park, but may I suggest lunch and play at Lake Hiawatha Preserve, they have a new play ground and dog park (November 2014).

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

1 hour east of Orlando,
45 minutes south of Daytona Beach,
45 minutes north of Cocoa Beach;
what a better place for a wildlife refuge to sit.

FEE $5 cash or check 

Use this review as a guide. Read it out loud,
step by step the day of your trip 
set aside 3hrs from NSB and 4 hrs from Orlando,
wear walking shoes,
pack some water, snacks or lunch
and lastly- relax and enjoy the moments and people of this day!

I've lived in New Smyrna Beach, Florida for over a dozen years and never visited this little gem.

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is only 30 minutes from my house, once I discovered that out, I was itching to visit.

Last Sunday, Aubry and I headed out for a quick afternoon drive and hike.
From US 1 in New Smyrna Beach we headed south toward Oak Hill; 
aproximately 2.2 miles south of the Oak Hill traffic light 
US 1 takes a pretty sharp right-hand-turn 
you'll take a left,  
a fun, sharp left onto Route 3 
and into the refuge.

If you're coming from the south, start at the Visitor's Center on Max Brewer Memorial Parkway.

Once you take the left and you're in the park make a quick stop and pick up a:

-Refuge map, 

-hiking trail guide and 

-some bird watching pamphlets

-->Take a picture by the Merritt Island sign and drive on!<-- 

You are on Route 3/Kennedy Parkway North: Weird Florida has an interesting fact about a weird road that's off of Route 3 click over there to check that out...

We suggest you head straight to Haulover Canal, jump out and hopefully see some manatees! the colder the weather, the better!!

Back on the road again continue straight down Route 3 toward the Visitor's Center.

You'll turn right onto 402 toward the Visitor Center and 
1.2 miles up on your right are the Oak Hammock and Palm Hammock Trails.

STOP at these trails.

The Oak Hammock has two loops that can be done in a figure 8;
walk it!!
We saw 3 armadillos, a bunch of cool trees and got up close to one too many spiders!

Did I say spider?
Don't let that keep you away, the paths are nice with boardwalks over the low areas.

We opted out of hiking the Palm Hammock Trail because of all the rain, so next we say head toward the Visitor's Center and poke around there.



After visiting the inside and outside of the Visitor's Center make your way to the Blackpoint Wildlife Drive.
You'll have to self-pay the $5 so have cash or check!
Grab a guidebook and enjoy the ride, the wildlife ride!!

The 6-mile, one-way loop is relaxing; stop, get out and enjoy the Florida wildlife if you want. We 
We saw lots of ducks, birds and a gator!

The mangroves and cedar trees are always neat to see how they grow, perfectly and beautifully built by God.

The Wildlife drive ends in true Florida fashion as a straight shot for the last little clip of the drive.

From here you can:
a. take a right toward Titusville
OR
b. Aubry and I took a left and headed straight on home to New Smyrna Beach; 
she slept and I...
well, I had a good playlist of TSwift and the Eagles!
