3 Grand Turk Excursions to Consider for Your March 2027 Cruise

If you're cruising to Grand Turk in March 2027, you have some really fun excursion choices. Three that stand out are:

  • 🐋 Whale Watching
  • 🐠 Snorkeling & Stingray Adventure
  • ⛵ Catamaran Sailaway, Snorkel & Beach

Each one offers a completely different experience, so the best choice really depends on what kind of day you want to have.

Here’s how they compare:

🐋 1. WHALE WATCHING

My pick for the "once-in-a-lifetime" experience

Why March is REALLY important

- This is the big reason I would seriously consider this one.

Grand Turk is in the humpback whale migration area, and local operators generally run whale excursions from approximately January through March/April. One Grand Turk operator specifically lists the season as mid-January through mid-April.

So March 2027 is prime whale-watching territory.

Royal Caribbean specifically lists Whale Watching as a Grand Turk excursion.

Royal Caribbean — Grand Turk Shore Excursions

What other people are saying.....

The recent reviews are really compelling.

One March 2026 traveler reported seeing six whales, including a mother and calf, and described it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Another March 2026 reviewer reported seeing two pairs of mothers and calves and even getting an opportunity to swim with a whale under the operator's rules and conditions.

That's obviously not a guarantee. Whale watching is wildlife watching. You could have an incredible day—or fewer sightings.

But the March timing dramatically improves the appeal.

Downsides

  • You're spending your Grand Turk day primarily looking for whales.
  • It can be an open-ocean boat ride, so seasickness is a consideration. Grand Turk Diving Company specifically cautions that its whale-watching trip may not suit people prone to seasickness.
  • You aren't getting a traditional snorkeling/beach day.
  • Weather and whale behavior are out of everyone's control.

My rating for you

WOW factor: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Uniqueness: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Snorkeling: ⭐
Relaxation: ⭐⭐⭐
March suitability: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the one I'd choose if you want to come home saying, "I can't believe we got to do that."

🐠 2. SNORKELING & STINGRAY ADVENTURE

Best overall EXPERIENCE

This one is probably the best combination of things.

Royal Caribbean's Grand Turk information specifically highlights Gibbs Cay, a tiny island known for its wild stingrays. RCCL describes the rays as harmless and says visitors can snorkel and interact with them.

The Royal Caribbean excursion is currently listed as:

Snorkeling and Stingray Adventures — Moderate

Royal Caribbean — Grand Turk Shore Excursions

The reviews are VERY strong

This is where the stingray excursion really separates itself.

Recent 2026 reviews repeatedly mention:

  • excellent snorkeling
  • stingray encounters
  • friendly crews
  • conch diving
  • fresh conch salad/ceviche
  • rum punch
  • good time management

One recent reviewer literally gave the experience checkmarks for crew, snorkeling, stingrays, time management and rum punch.

Another March 2026 reviewer said the stingray experience was something they would never forget, even though weather conditions weren't ideal.

And another reviewer described the snorkeling as good but said the stingray portion and fresh conch salad were the outstanding parts.

One important caveat

The snorkeling isn't universally considered spectacular.

Some people say the snorkeling is merely "average" compared with other Caribbean islands, while the stingrays are the star of the show.

That's important.

If you're thinking:

"I want the absolute best coral reef snorkeling I've ever experienced."

I wouldn't pick this specifically for that.

If you're thinking:

"I want to snorkel AND interact with something really cool AND have a local Grand Turk experience."

This is fantastic.

My rating

Snorkeling: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wildlife: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Variety: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

March suitability: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is my #1 choice for the best all-around excursion.

⛵ 3. CATAMARAN SAILAWAY, SNORKEL & BEACH

Most FUN / RELAXED

This is the one I'd choose if the goal is:

"Let's have a FUN Caribbean day."

Royal Caribbean currently lists Catamaran Sailaway, Snorkel & Beach as a Moderate excursion.

Royal Caribbean — Catamaran Sailaway, Snorkel & Beach

And this isn't just "sit on a boat."

Reviews of the Grand Turk catamaran experience consistently describe:

  • sailing
  • snorkeling
  • beach time
  • music
  • drinks
  • dancing
  • a social atmosphere

A recent 2026 review described it as the quintessential Caribbean catamaran excursion, with snorkeling, beach time, rum drinks, music and dancing.

A Royal Caribbean cruiser specifically reported that the catamaran snorkeling was amazing, with fish surrounding the snorkelers, followed by about an hour at the beach.

Another review of the Grand Turk catamaran described a good balance of sailing + snorkeling + beach time and praised the crew's safety-conscious approach.

The big advantage

You're not committing your whole excursion to one thing.

You get:

Boat ride → snorkeling → beach → drinks/social time → boat ride back

That's a really nice vacation day.

The downside

If you're comparing it to the other two:

You're unlikely to get the "holy crap, we just saw a humpback whale!" moment.

And you're not getting the very distinctive Gibbs Cay stingray encounter.

It's more:

"That was SO much fun."

rather than:

"That was unbelievable."

My rating

WOW factor: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Snorkeling: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wildlife: ⭐⭐⭐
Fun/social: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Relaxation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
March suitability: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

🏆 Here's how I'd rank them

My overall score9.5/109.3/109/10

*The whale option has the highest variability because you're dealing with wild animals and ocean/weather conditions.

-Pay attention to check-in date & check-in ASAP choosing the best check-in time for your stateroom (earlier the better)

STEP 4:

Learn more here on my Travel Blog Utopia of the Seas Main Post Page.

MORE IMPORTANT THINGS:

Going with a group- best way to get to port.

I highly suggest everyone in the same stateroom check in together. You can caravan together, I like to find a coffee shop near the port off on I-95 as a meet up spot to caravan.

Use this Google Maps link to park right at the port terminal.

The cost is pricey at $80 for a Fri-Mon but at $20 per person its not that bad. The close walk to check-in & when you get off the ship, is great....  and all checked luggage can be dropped BEFORE parking, so take advantage of that. You thank me for not having ot carry your luggage across the parking lot.

Print your luggage tags before leaving as well, do this through the "check-in" screen on your app or the website.

She loves a cruise and wants to enjoy it with her sisters in Christ; a getaway with the girls, no cooking, cleaning or Ubering children around. Just good friends, great memories and the open seas.

Check your calendar, reserve the date and set sail with your sisters in Christ on the high seas in 2027!

Why a Weekend Getaway Is More Valuable Than You Think

Getting away for a weekend refreshes my soul and allows me to slow down.

Traveling through airports, train stations, or even in your own car on a road trip can either stress you or settle you.

I personally find the latter to be incredibly beneficial to both my mental and physical health.

Here’s why I believe a weekend getaway needs to be in your near future.

1. It Gets You Out of the Normal and Into Something New

We grow and change as we experience new places, cultures, people, and perspectives.

Even a short trip can wake something up inside of you. Sometimes we do not realize how stuck we feel until we step outside of our normal routines and surroundings.

2. It Gives You Room to Breathe

When planned correctly, a getaway allows you to simply enjoy the moment.

You can slow down enough to read that book sitting on your nightstand, sit quietly with your thoughts, write the devotional you have wanted to write, or finally begin the book that has been on your heart.

There is something healing about stepping away from constant responsibility and allowing yourself space to just be.

3. It Creates Space for Real Conversation

Whether you are traveling alone, with a friend, in a group, or with your spouse, getting away from the day-to-day routine creates room for real conversation.

You can actually begin and finish a conversation without interruption.

Whether it is time spent talking with God, laughing with your best friend, or reconnecting with someone you love, there is something special about having less to do and more time to simply enjoy the here and now with another human being.

Sometimes the best memories are not made in the big moments, but in the quiet conversations along the way.

So if you already know the value of a short getaway, I’d love to hear from you! Please email me at MSpanosTravels@gmail.com and share your favorite weekend escape or travel memory.

If you are looking for weekend getaway ideas, family trips, Disney escapes, or simple ways to refresh your soul, send me a DM on Instagram at @Michelle.Spanos or find me on Facebook at Michelle Chute Spanos.

And in the meantime, practice “mini vacays.”
Take a bubble bath. Wear Mickey ears around the house. Sit quietly outside for an hour. Watch the sunset. Read a book just for fun.

Sometimes rest begins long before the suitcase is packed.

Happy travels,
Michelle
